They are mainly licence builds from the German ship yard TKMS (Thyssen Krupp Marien Systems). The Swedish ship yard (Kockums ) is/was owned by TKMS, the Spanisch ship yard also uses the propulsion from Siemens. Japan uses Lithium-ion batteries.

They are since decades a major leg of the NATO forces. Even the German frigates are part of eg US carrier strike groups - their hell advanced radar is there a real accet. The German Radar has more than twice the range than the US radar. The German Radar did not send out Radar beams, they just analyse the radar area for inteferences and can even track a bird. Thats the reson why the Germans did eg not buy US Stealth planes, as they don´t belive on stealth. With the so called passive Rader they spoted US "stealth" planes hundreds of miles away.

The amount is adjusted to the actual potential threat situation and at the moment Germany is in no clich with other nations.
3
There is one, but only for combat use.

Even the older class 206/Dophin was hard to detect. In 2001 U24 fired (simulated) in a maneuver (JTFEX 01-2) all torpedos on a carrier (USS Enterprise) and finaly surfaced next to the carrier. In following other maneuver Los-Angeles class submarines should detect/hunt class 206 submarines. They detected nothing, even as the class 206 was directly around them.

Nope, they had a much older model. This is a modern Type 212A. Indonesia had a 30-40 years old Type 209 with bad maintenance. Subs of this age need a complete overhaul by the factory and not a local car mechanican with a wrench.
2
They have only one purose - to carry nuclear weapons. If you don´t have to carry nuclear balistic missiles, the disadvantages are to high. A nuclear submarine makes a lot of noise and can therefore be detected by sonar. The 212 uses a Fuel cell wich produces absolut no noises - the loudest tool on board is in stealth mode the dishwasher in the kitchen.
2
The round means that the person was part of a large scale NATO manouver and the Wolf seems to be the sign of the ship, the crew men from the base-crew wear this sign. The other could be personel from other ships who are deployed to this ship for the actual mission.

@petesheppard1709 The correct term is Marine Soldier, other definitions are not official. Singe soldiers are adressed by their rank + name. The equivalent to the rank of a Seaman is in the German Marine a Matrose (lowest enlisted rank).
2
@petesheppard1709 The "jobs" on German warships require usually a qualification wich goes along with a higher rank. There fore there are rarly simple matroses on German warships. Replaced by ITO (IT-Officer) ;-)

U35 is just returned from a 4 month mission and a Type 212 submarine is actually the ultimate stealth submarine. Nuclear powered submarine smake a lot of noise and also have a big heat signature wich can be spoted eg via satelite. A Type 212 uses in combat mode the Oxygene/Hydrogene fuel cells and is a absolut silent killer.
2
They are are all soldiers, in each branch of the German Military (Heer, Luftwaffe, Marine).

The ballst tanks contain air wich keep the boot on a certain level. If the reduve the pressure in the tanks, more water is flooding in and the upkeeping effect reduces. it´s finaly airpressure vs. water-pressure wich keeps the boot at a certain level. If yo run out of air-pressure, yor can´t dive up and sink endless.
1
The torpedos are guided and hit, so 6 torps - 6 hit - 6 sunk ships.
1
Nuclear powered meants that you make a lot of heat and noise - thats deathly for a submarine.
1
There are more, but those in education are not counted.

American or Russian subs are mostly strategic submrines to launch nuclear rockets. The German subs are hunter submarines to sink ships, carrier and subs. Nuclear driven submarines make a lot of noise and heat, the type 212 sub is a silent killer.
1
The Type 212 has also a Oxygene/Hydrogene fuel cell for combat mode. The diesel is in comat mode turned of and the e-motors run on power from the totally noiseless fuel cells. The diesel is only used to propell the submarine until it reaches its mission area.

He is not forced to his job, he knew for what he signed up.

Only the underwear, not the uniforms.

@jackmorrison7379 It is a mid-ocean hunter, but it is not a nuclear missile carrier who cruises along the oceans. The 212 is a hunter and attack submarine and has proven in many NATO missions that it could sink everywhere target ships. The 212 has also the moast advanced passive sonar wich alows to locate farting whales hundrets of sea miles away. It can not follow for weeks a submerged Russian nuclear sub, but they can detect them by their sound signature and follow in a distance.
1
@jackmorrison7379 Only the LA Class can follow for a very long time, but this is no hunting this shadowing.
1
It does, not by sound decibel, but by electronic inteferences wich can be dected by anti submarine buoys.
1
@joecombs7468 I guess the journalists responsible for this video did not understand all the details, and my definition of a "buoy" was also wide span as the German definition for it is Signal-Boje wich translates into english as buoy - may be a translation mistake - e.g. (advanced modern) Passive Sonar may be also familiar to you. Like in Passive Radar / Sonar the operator or now system does not send out a Ping, but is just listening to irregularities in the "background" noise. Todays HQ radars work in the same way, NO beam just observing changes in the natural environment. - just listen.
1
It is not a ballistic submarine, it is a silent hunter.
1
Electronic cameras did not have the resolution like the real optics in the periscope. The periscope has also sea radar, laser range finder and many more high tech tools wich are mostly secret.
1
It was no modern Type 212, it was a 40 years old one - subs should be decomissiones after 30 years, same as airplanes.
1
The optronics of a periscope have a much higher resolution than any camera and this on all weather conditions. For some reasons they show here not the full potential.
