@johnrambo6265 I'm from Te Hiku o te Ika, that is the tail of the stingray, which the stingray was called Te Ika a Maui, the South Islands real name is Te Waka a Maui. His two brothers pulled up the stingray and started to try and kill it, hence the reason why Te Ika a Maui has many Mountains. Thats the real story how Tangata Whenua named this country.
