I'll be honest, Trump and his people was outmaneuvered by Zelensky. Zelensky made it seem like he's there to sign the deal, the press conference at the Oval office was meant to be a joint press conference where the two presidents were to talk about how the deal would be beneficial for both countries and to pave way to peace negotiation. It turned out, he was there to basically 'bargain' in front of the media, knowing that Trump's relation with most (not all) of the legacy media have been negative. So he basically 'hoodwinked' the administration to make them believe one thing and attempt to make them relent to Zelensky's demand of 'guarantees' in front of the press. Obviously Trump and Vance ended up arguing with him instead of backing down to him so that the people on the Left can accuse them of being bullies and encouraged EU as well as Canada to pour in more support. But in the end, we all know the EU are not enough. They still need the US to help. I honestly understand if the administration is pissed off and doesn't want to deal with Zelensky anymore....however, it seems that they still want to stop the war even if you have to deal with Zelensky and Putin both. Ugh.
