His dad and stepmonster got physical custody of Gannon and Laina. I think it's due to them having more stable home situation. Allegedly, bio mother was with another man and that relationship was horrible (domestic violence) and she just had another child with said person--so her home situation was not ideal. Also, iirc, when Gannon was murdered, his bio mom was recovering from an automobile accident. Bio father and stepmonster fought to get that custody, by the way, so the split between bio parents were not exactly amicable. Bio mother and stepmonster fought a lot (as seen on their FB accounts and such).
