The timing was not 'right' at that time. And yeah, I believe even with Camilla, Charles probably still has a mistress or a 'casual' one, it seems to be the 'norm' within this type of circle. It's okay as long as it's discreet. Diana was probably the only one who didn't play by 'their' rule, she made a ruckus over the whole thing with Camilla (although it appears to be 'well known' that Camilla and Andrew practically had an open marriage), because she actually loved Charles and wanted him to love her back, so sad.

Well, Prince Charles hired a new PR team for Camilla and himself, a couple years before these two married and it worked, many people seemed to accept her as his wife, after all, Diana has passed away.

Time heals, and children see it differently too. I know a friend of mine whose husband cheated on her and married his mistress, the children knew about it (mom didn't say, but they overheard mom and dad arguing to put 2 and 2), but when it came down to it, at first they were not comfortable but since they were around 10 or so, they still had to go to dad's house once in awhile so they had to get along with stepmom too.

@L A From what I read...Camilla was toying with Charles, she was seeing Andrew Parker Bowles at the same time as Charles, they were doing the whole "open relationship" deal behind closed door (Andrew was also a womanizer so he was fine with Camilla being with Charles), then Charles decided that he didn't want to marry in his 20s. Therefore, Camilla ended up leaning to Andrew again, then his family practically pushed these two to marry leaving Charles to be single, so although later on Camilla didn't quite stop seeing Charles after marrying Andrew, Charles would still have to have a wife and family :(
