  1. When it comes to Putin, I do not like the system he has created one bit. I am in fact happy I'm not living in that system. But then you have this country with 11 time zones and 4,000 nuclear weapons. So we are stuck on the same planet with Russia and then we have to decided what is the least bad way forward. I do not believe that minefields and machine guns on the border is the way to go. Does not mean we should welcome Russian influence into our politics, but a degree of pragmatism and transactionalism would be a lot better then a very real of a great power war. So it well and truly horrifies me that we are now going to have the same problems with the United States. Because I believe Trump is going to accelerate the problems at home for sure, but I also foresee that he will increase the militarization of US foreign policy that has created no end of troubles for the Americans these past 30 years. Probably the true tragedy of Trump 2024 will be that he is an elitist masquerading as a populist. I do not believe for one second that he would address the wealth inequality in US that is at the core of all this dysfunction. He is most likely going to give Koch the libertarian dystopia that he has sought for so long. A big question for political scientists is going to be how smaller democracies should act when a country that is systemically so very important in fact becomes a tyrant, or at least a extortion artist.
