Dave Matthews criticized Republicans for misleading Americans into thinking they are "powerless" to prevent gun violence and that sacrificing innocent lives is necessary for true patriotism. He condemned the lack of action on mental health despite blaming it as the sole cause of shootings. Matthews, who knows gun owners, believes in restricting access to prevent school shootings. He also targeted right-wing paranoia and Fox News, urging for a calm discussion on solutions. Matthews expressed fear for his children's safety and shared personal experiences of losing friends in shootings.

AOC criticized Kevin McCarthy for holding the national debt hostage and advocating for reduced spending. She challenged him to repeal tax breaks for the wealthy instead of burdening single moms and veterans. AOC highlighted that Republicans created the need to raise the debt ceiling through their previous spending decisions benefiting the rich. She called for a fairer tax system where the middle class doesn't bear the majority of the burden and the wealthy pay their fair share.

AOC criticized Kevin McCarthy for holding the national debt hostage and advocating for reduced spending. She suggested that instead, the GOP should reverse the tax breaks they granted to wealthy individuals, such as yacht and private jet tax breaks. AOC questioned why single moms and veterans should bear the burden of paying for the GOP's favors to the rich when even their own caucus doesn't support them. She clarified that the debt ceiling needs to be raised because of the Republicans' past spending decisions, which benefited their wealthy allies. AOC argued that it's unfair for the middle class, disabled, retired citizens, and single mothers to suffer the consequences while the ultra-rich avoid paying their fair share of taxes.

Music superstar Dave Matthew infuriates Republicans by ripping lawmakers for falsely convincing Americans that they are "powerless" to stop gun violence and that the “vulnerability of innocent people in this country is a sacrifice we have to make if we want to be truly American.” “It’s so mind-bogglingly cruel. It’s insanity,” said Matthews. “I have no idea how people can stand up and say it’s ‘not guns’ and ‘NRA,’ it’s just mental health," he went on. "And then do nothing to address the fact that from the ‘80s we’ve closed every mental health institution we can in this country." Matthew said that he has "many" friends who own firearms but they all agree that the would prefer that "a person can’t go into a school and blow people away after buying a gun.” He then took aim squarely at right-wing paranoia and Fox News talking points by saying that "no is coming from your guns" but that we need a "conversation without mad outrage" about what can be done. “I don’t like being afraid of my children being murdered at school. I’ve had to deal with my kids being at university when there is a shooting and they’ve lost friends,” he added.
