“Funny how the world work, I’m a biochem major, I spent 7 years in uni, nearly 100k tuition. Although drug price keep going up, my salary never change...” Edit: My old classmate worked for Eli lily, and he said that if all those money Eli Lily earned goes into research, they’d have cured cancer now

@Brianna Cortelyou tbh if the cooperations disappeared then drug development would as well. I know it sounds crazy but government need to take actively invest in primary science (researches and studies) and stop throwing money in the current healthcare system

@Matt Crown actually most people in research don’t get that money. Just look at the board of Eli Lily, how many of those had their Ph D in biochem? Why we paying 13 fat capitalists that knows literally nothing at how ochem synthesis work?

@Matt Crown you also can’t rely on them lower drug price since all they know is to squeeze more money out. In less famous cases, erythromycin’s price shot up from 0.03 dollar to 7 dollar pellet. You may think Medicare can pay for this, but it is this kind of small increase that eventually overloaded the system and led us to this point. So yea, there are other parties to be blamed here, but the most obvious one is the fact that we are paying economists and politicians to run a business that they don’t understand

@Matt Crown no... that’s the point, some “patents” last forever, and in the case of insulin, the scientist behind it sold it for 1 Canadian dollar. Those “billions” are better used developing new drug, not new insulin......
