Yes, China is ahead in battery production world wide. However LG holds the lead in batteries used outside of China and as Cyrus stated the US considers Lithium and rare metal production a national security issue. The Inflation Reduction Act is a trillion dollar subsidy to reshore American Manufacturing after 75 years of offshoring. In Canada, Lithium, Cobalt, Nickel and other rare earth metals are being developed although in early stages. We know that they are there since they were all discovered in the early 1900's, but not commercially viable at the time. As Cyrus said in his commercial, there are lots of opportunities in Canada, so much so that Volkswagen is building a huge battery plant in South Western Ontario. Stelantis and LG are building one as well. The local power plant is being expanded to supply electricity to them as well as the huge number of green houses in Essex County. One big advantage is that almost all materials are available locally and do not have to be shipped. Ford, GM, Chrysler and Toyota are switching there local plants in Ontario to build EV's. This means more production close to the source.
One of the problems that China will have with its mine and ship the raw material is that the host country wants more added value. A prime example of this Chile, currently the largest producer of Lithium in the world wants it to be refined there. Nobody should count their chickens before they hatch. It is going to be an interesting decade.
