  1. He effectively dismantled the Japanese military class or caste. Through land reform and instituting absolute right to private property in the new Japanese constitution, he distributed wealth to the people.

  2.  @dazaspc  MacArthur had the sense of using the Japanese political structure to implement US policy. He had the insight to destroy, once and for all, the military caste and its imperialistic aspirations. By totally disabling the military caste, he exacted retribution for all the war atrocities committed in China, Korea, Singapore, Philippines, etc. It was a sound military strategy to totally extinguish Japan's war mongering as enshrined in Japan's post war constitution.
