Israel's a weird and I would argue bad example. I stopped criticizing it because I decided it fit better in the category of post-Ottoman dhimmi successor state, though there is a common element between these and the post-Austrian local ethnic group successor state - i. e. Hungary and other non-Western European countries. The breakup of the Ottoman Empire was a much more drawn out process than breakup of the Austrian Empire and I would argue begins with Greece and ends with Israel. (Though the Greek Orthodox Turkish speakers weren't expelled from Anatolia and Eastern Thrace and forced to live in Greece until the Turkish victory in the Turkish War of Independence, whereas the Mizrahim were expelled from Iraq, Transjordan, Syria, etc. immediately on the formation of Israel in 1948.) It isn't logical to hold a nonWestern state representing a nonWestern culture and whose claim to legitimacy falls within a distinctly Eastern pattern to Western standards.
