Man, I'm just sick of hearing the same old Re-Roll. It just is the same thing over and over. And lets be honest here. Why are we in the West? It use to be money and quality of life. But all of that has went down hill. So what are MEN really missing out on going abroad? FAMILIARITY .
It can't be security since we really don't have that anymore either.
The sad fact is that if you make 3k a month in another place? You live like you make 15k in the West. And it gets better and better the further you go away from the city metropolis.
There are men who legit live for almost free* in Vietnam and Thailand, Malaysia etc.
They get some local restaurant job with the pay being room & board and utilities, and spend their days just tax free chilling when work is over.
I know guys that don't even pay rent as there are women out there that just want a man around to take care of the house or property.
(Something that is still in demand in other countries as they don't have abusive tenant laws)
I also know a fella that just does maintenance on the Apartments he lives in and trades that for rent. He does not even work a 9-5 as he just keeps on on stuff before it happens. Place looks spotless. Even the furnitiure & TV he has he picked up from the skiff, replaced the Backlight board, and has a 55" tv in his room.
Same with A/C. Just repaired a motor contractor and lubed the "Sealed" Bearings.
If you are like Bo here & know how to build or happen to know electrical work? Your golden.
And another thing?
Not saying you do this, but how many of you have seen western men get kicked out of these places that happen to be an asset to the place?
I know a guy who lived in a country for 15 years, and never even had a Visa there.
He just did odd jobs and helped around the community and learned the language.
The Day came when the Fuzz asked about his papers, and he did not know he was an LEO type.
He said he did not have any and been there for 15 years.
The authorities came in about a week or so. (You got to do your job, as it was a VERY honorable country Hint hint)
He was taking care of things at some local senior center.
The locals had a chat with the authorities that came in and they left. Something about "Are you going to replace him!" said a few of them.
He has been there now 16 years.
Stays with an older couple that gave him a small house to keep his things in. But always comes over just to help out with whatever arises.
All this from just one day helping the older couple out loading their groceries inside the home and putting them away.
He does that for most of the people in that small community center & happens to just be the village handyman.
He has no real bills to speak of. Food is always made or given to him by somebody as his fridge is never empty.
Even a cell phone another Older couple gave him (But alas the Wife passed away a few years ago)
How did he end up There?
A Dear John letter while heading home during the holidays on a connecting flight. Ended up at a bar at some Inn/ Motel.
The rest is the most serendipitous story one can ever think off.
The motel / Inn or whatever they call it was in pretty bad shape and needed some repairs.
Ran out of booze, & the store was closed. With nothing better to do, he went to the front desk to sort it out.
The old man was walking around with a cane, so he just took the tool bag and did it himself after seeing him walk.
Told the guy to stay behind the counter if business comes and he would take care of it if he could tell him where there was an open liquor store.
Same night? Monsoon weather. Power & phone goes out.
Next day, goes in to check up on the power situation at the front desk. Ends up having to rescue the poor fella as his door for some reason won't open as its physically stuck at the door joist probably due to the Monsoon and the rain. (Door was MDF possibly ?)
Old man was fine, but now the door needed to be replaced.
So they took the truck into town and got a new door and some hardware.
And it just kept going from there.
A few days turned into a few weeks.
And then one repair went on after another. He just kept drinking with the older in keeper and sharing stories.
This went on for a month until someone asked for a room there, but complained about the room being in disrepair.
So of course he was talking to the fella, and he just got right on it.
He ended up spending most of the spring there, and it just kept snowballing from there.
He made a deal to fix up the place, and he got a free room.
Later on old in keeper asked him if he could look after the place as he had something to take care off with his sister and he would be back in a few days.
He then got a call that it was going to be a bit longer by the old man. But his voice was very sad it seems.
His sister was in the hospital.
One thing led to another and he ended up at the sisters home basically doing the same thing and installed a ramp to get in the house she lived in.
Next thing you know, he was using her car as she could not drive easily anymore.
So he was floating between the 2 places during the day, and still kept drinking at night.
And it just kept going on from there.
Its now been 17 plus years come to think about it.
The old man passed away not to long ago. But he still looks after the place.
The inn keepers Sister is still alive, but now he happens to be the village handy man. (forgot the name but that would give away where he is)
But that's what he does each day.
He no longer drinks everyday, but he does enjoy his life there.
He is valued and feels like its the right place to be for now.
I still chat with him every once in a while. But he sure is happy. A stark contrast to what it was like talking to him some 17 years ago.
He went to that hotel to drink himself to "sleep".
And ended up starting a real life in a place he had only ever stepped foot in at the airport.
It helped the inn keeper & his sister both spoke English. But he picked up the local language along the way.
Thing is?
Sometimes? You just need to go for a walk. Good things can happen.
