  1. Are you Spamming ? The Territory used to be De-Restrict right through the North-South Road until the Ran a " Cannonball " Event up there , long ago . There was an Horrific Accident at one of the Checkpoints with 5 deaths occurring . This led to a Federal Law that the National Limit was 100 km/h . The " Ghostbusters " signs DO still exist here and there around the place , but they MEAN 100 . Any time one of those gets replaced , a Number replaces it . A State can post a Higher limit on certain Roads , BUT , they have to be SPECIFIC as to what that higher limit is .

  2. I suspect the Germans are FAR more serious about Driver Training than you there in the States . You lot consider a D/L a " Right " , whereas they treat it as a " Privilege " , which it IS . Everyone should consider a Drivers Licence a Privilege , earned for Merit . Australia used to have " De-Restrict " zones in remote areas . Sign looked like " Ghostbusters " minus the Ghost . Speeds shown from here on is Km/h . National General " Guideline " in such areas was 140-150 max . Highway Police had Discretion regarding regulation of this . Look Fast and SAFE , left alone . That changed when a " Cannonball " Event got run in the NT , and there was a VERY nasty accident at a Check-point . 5 fatalities . National Limit became 100 .

  3.  @anon17472  . Also in NSW . On MOTORWAYS and only when Posted . Nationally , in the absence of a Posted Speed , in an Unbuilt Up area , the General Speed Limit is 100 . State Regulatory signage CAN ascribe higher limits in designated areas .

A Tyre failure at 250 , on the other hand............................................................ 100 klicks is WELL within Easy Visual Range . 250 maybe not so much . Zero reaction time available at those speeds .
