  1. A Uniquely Australian Vehicle . Because of Parts Commonality the Variations possible were virtually endless . The 5.0 Engine was the Original Design , a Stand Alone Australian , Clean Sheet build . Separated us from the G . M . ( Chevrolet ) products even though that was the Parent Company . The 4.2 was Sleeved Down on the Same Crank / Block . Slight Head changes , of course . Same Cam I believe . Good little Unit . No real Economy benefit . Back in my 20's A Mate of mine had a Sandman 4.2 . At the Time I owned a Chrysler by Chrysler 360 Auto , which got BETTER FUEL MILEAGE . I'm 62 now .
