The V-8 sound you are used to is , Yes , much lower Revs and usually with a Cross-Plane Crank . 90 degree throws . I think that is using a Flat-Plane Crank . 180 degree throws . Sounds somewhat like a V-8 Cosworth F1 Engine .

  4. Flat-plane is your NORMAL Inline 4 Crank . All 4 fire Separately and evenly . A Two-stroke Inline 4 will fire them in Pairs . Like a TZ-700 . The R-1 , with its Cross-plane Crank , is a " Big Bang " engine . Two Cylinders fire 90 degrees apart . Then 270 later , the OTHER two do the same . Leaves a slight Dead Spot each revolution that helps maintain Traction .
