  1. The longer the war lasts and the more Russia and Ukraine exhaust themselves the better it is for the West. If anything of Ukraine remains under Western influence after the war the west will buy Ukrainian companies and immovables dirt cheap. And even if not, Russia would be so economically weakened that it would be hard pressed to keep up in the arms race and perhaps even be susceptible to civil war. This is a win-win scenario for the West.
