Consider that the collaboration ended because Beretta wanted to use a AK-like gas action (this one) and SIG a rolled-delayed blowback action (and ended up with the unsuccessful SG530, gas operated roller locked).

Wow, what a load of bullshit. in the '80 there were few people that didn't consider the M16 a lemon after the less than stellar service in Vietnam. The M16A2 had NEVER been in the competition for the pretty simple reason that was not manufactured by an Italian firm. The SOCIMI AR871 was, that's a derivative of the AR15, but pretty different since, like the DAEWOO K2, it had a long-stroke piston gas action.

@10mikemike89 The operation is carried on by active duty military personnel, with the standard equipment. It started after the terror attacks in France in 2015. They surveil places where's most likely to have tourists' concentrations.

@RandomUser-cx9kn "the (clearly) worst design" in respect to an AK derivate and a rifle that had not been adopted by ANYONE? The most fearsome contender was the SOCIMI AR871, an AR15 derivate wit a long stroke gas piston action (like the Daewoo K2).

Consider that the collaboration ended because Beretta wanted to use a AK-like gas action (this one) and SIG a rolled-delayed blowback action (and ended up with the unsuccessful SG530, gas operated roller locked). Only later SIG ended with an action practically identical to the Beretta one in the SG540.

Kasserine Pass?

They didn't. O = Ordinaria (normal), C = Critica (critical). Like in the selector R = Raffica (burst).

In the '70s several bullet trap grenades had been developed for .223 Rem. IE the French APAV40

Reciprocating.

Long stroke inherently filthy? Hard to clean a rifle where you can remove the gas block? Are you joking?

@sergecashman4822 so you base your experience on an AK derivate and a MG? Not to say that you state "you have to oil everything" and then complain about dirt? Oh, yeah. It's not like with the Stoner action the bolt and receiver themself are filled with carbon debries. I wonder if you ever shot anything at this point. Delayed blowbacks are notoriously dirty. Pretty much like Stoner actions.

@Jack72607 Almost right. Only a thing. There's not the 29 rounds limitation. That was the interpretation of one "banco di prova", but had been long superseed. 30 or even 50 rounds mag are regularly on sale.

Have you seen the 2 gun match report?
1
Quite the contrary.

Beretta and SIG started designing an AR toghether, then parted ways in 1963 because SIG wanted to use a roller delayed blowback action and Beretta a AK-like long stroke gas action. SIG ended with the unsuccessful SG530, gas actuated, roller locked. Beretta made the AR70. SIG adoped a nearly identical action to the Beretta one in the SG540.
