  1. The barrel has to rotate clockwise to unlock, like the rifling, so like the bullet has to. Since the rifling is what forces the bullet to rotate clockwise (the gasses push the bullet down the barrel, but don't impart any rotation), the same barrel is foced to rotate counterclockwise by the bullet, so delaying the opening. The more, the more powerful the cartridge is. Since the bullet accelerates for the entire lenght of the barrel, for any realistic lenght of the barrel of an handgun, the dalaying effect is present until the bullet leaves the barrel.
