  1. Functionally the Gustloff is a pure blowback AR. There 's no way a gas port placed past the half of the barrel can have any effect in delaying the opening of the action before the projectile leaves the barrel. For the same reason a gas port placed there doesn't open the action, in a standard gas action, before the projectile leaves the barrel. The only function of the gas piston in this, or in the Steyr GB, is to slow down the bolt/slide when the opening already happened, to avoid it slamming too hard on the frame.
