  1.  @Israel_hans  As said, for sustained fire, water cooling is unbeatable. But it's only viable for firing from a fixed position. It's not only the weight of the water jaket. That water evaporates quite fast, so you need other water tanks, and a recirculating pump (you don't want to expose yourself to fill the water jacket), THEN the water jacket is exposed and gets easily damaged (and, without it, the MG overheats in a moment) so you have to add more armor to protect it, that's more added weight...
