Two in the magazine, one in the chamber. Much countries limits to 3 the number of allowed rounds in shotguns for hunting. You can use more rounds for other purposes. If you need more than three rounds to shoot down a bird, you are doing it wrong.

@DinnerForkTongue In which way? The USAS is simply a semiauto shotgun and, thus not having the double possibility of the SPAS, IT'S 3.3 LBS HEAVIER. The USAS is more the fat and less gifted friend.

@DinnerForkTongue You want to use it in full auto? Good luck.

Patents on firearms, like for any mechanism, expire in 20 years. Anyone can made an exact copy of the FAMAS like anyone can made an exact copy of the Beretta 92F.

It had been disassembled on the table. The parts number is very low.

Not "as a civilian" but "as a hunter". Many countries limit the number of rounds a shotgun used to hunt can have.

It's because of the asault weapon ban and the fact that the production ended before it expired.

@Quackers O'Brian Infact. this, like the SPAS-12, or the Benelli M3, is really a semiauto shotgun with a secondary pump action mode that you can use when you really have to shoot special light loads.

This safety serves PRECISELY to react quickly. You don't need a safety when a round is not chambered and, when you chamber a round, you are supposed to want to fire it, so the safety automatically disengages. If you don't want to fire it, THEN you can engage the safety AFTER having put a round in the chamber.

The safety CAN be used with a round in the chamber. IT'S MADE FOR IT. You don't need a safety when a round is not chambered and, when you chamber a round, you are supposed to want to fire it, so IN THAT CASE the safety automatically disengages. If you don't want to fire it, THEN you can engage the safety AFTER having put a round in the chamber.

Simply the Italian Special Forces asked Franchi to build a version of the SPAS-12 with prismatic magazine, because it was more practical than the tubular one, and to make other changes, suggested by field use. Franchi at that point completely redesigned the weapon.
