It just exploded sparky.....

No comparison. It wasnt a power reactor that burned for weeks this is entirely diferent. The device whatever it was has probably already been contained. The Russians are insane trying to put nuclear propulsion on a missile.

It`s the localised spread of radioactive isotopes it wont be a Chernobyl apart from the point of view of the poor locals.

Do you know how thermal energy from a reactor would power an air vehicle?

@nustada Thanks fella, you are very astute. I think this is more likely to be contamination from a very small tactical low yield nuclear warhead where the casing didnt survive impact. I dimissed the nuclear propulsion idea as something Russian engineers are too smart to persue.

@nustada If you ever boarded a nuclear powered submarine and were allowed to look in the reactor compartment, I guarantee you would be totally astonished at how small a naval reactor is, and you would be astonished for the rest of your life. Technology has moved on from SLAM.I think a nuclear powered missile is plausible, but as Russia found out today, the risks are too great, IF that is what happened. I still have my doubts, I would still suggest they lost a weapon rather than an exotic propulsion system.

@nustada the analogy was nothinh to do with buoyancy, I dont understandwhy you did? I was pointing out technology has moved on from the 1950s, if you had the 22 years military service in a Navy i`ve had you would understand, apologies if you have. "Nuclear power missile isnt plausible" . That comment alone sadly illustrates your ignorance of the topic.Just accept the fact others just might be better educated in the area than you are??

And here was I thinking I had been conversing with somebody with a semblance of intelligence. Who told you they were using a rocket engine? Look up "closed cycle nuclear propulsion" and come back to me. In any case, it's much more likely the resultant contamination originated from a very small weapon pit, or possibly a plutonium thermal battery of the type used in satellites. An exotic fuel is another possibility.

At least America doesnt sprinkle nuclear powered cruise missiles over its population and those of neighboring countries.

that was last week, this is a diferent incident.
