  5. That is the warhead casing not the aeroshell - ie not the outside of the missile. As you can see, something punched right through the warhead and Patriot can target the warhead section of a missile, in many ways this was the perfect intercept but I believe they had a few attempts at it before hitting it.

  6. Not quite, SM-3 is designed to hit a missile in the mid course phase before it releases warheads.
