Firstly, having the F-35 Carrier version would have been more expansive than having the F-35 B package which would have meant the installation of Cats and traps, EMALS and possibly more power generating capacity which would have meant more diesel generators. Secondly, the subsonic 1950`s non stealthy Harrier versus the F-35B, a 5th gen stealthy, supersonic aircraft with greater range capability and bring back. No contest and I bet every FAA aviator would agree with me.
