@MO-ss5mj It was the UK's Chief Scientific Adviser who first suggested "herd immunity", why do people think it was Boris?.

Two Chinese Nationals staying at a hotel in York were confirmed as the first cases of Coronavirus in the UK on the 31st of January. Italy stopped all flights from China on the 31st of January and it made no difference.

@wendysgarden4283 New Zealand has a population of only 4.6 million, the UK has a population of over 66 million the same as France which is twice as big, so I would think it is common sense that people packed into a country like sardines would hasten the spread. I am sure there was a long standing joke years ago about New Zealand having more sheep than people.
2
The World Health Organisation declared Coronavirus a Pandemic on the 11th March.

I think some people think the virus is more confined to London and don't think it is that prevalent in their area. I live in an area of South Yorkshire and as of today Sheffield has 1095 confirmed cases of Coronavirus and close by the small towns of Rotherham 279 confirmed cases and Barnsley 267.

@jcf6798 True. I will never vote for Kier Starmer, he reminds me of a smarmy Car Salesman who is trying to sell me a car that I don't want and I am trying to get away from him as quickly as possible.

Matt Hancock has said that 742 million pieces of PPE safety equipment has been distributed across the UK to Hospitals and other care facilities.
1
@Anon-xd3cf The government are doing a good job under difficult circumstances and they are battling a large number of people who are ignoring their advice and are still holding parties and sunbathing in parks.

18,000 plus deaths in Italy from Coronavirus.

it has been reported today that Germany's figures are starting to go up.
1
This government have been very good, they have given people advice and updated progress as we see here in this video. The Government only make decisions after they listen to advice from Medical professionals.

New Zealand has a small population of over 4 million (as of 2017). The UK is a small country but has a population of over 66 million. it makes sense that people living on top of one another that a virus will transmit more.
1
@sphinx1017 What about Italy?, they stopped all flights from China on the 31st of January, it made no difference. Also when Italy identified Lombardy as the main source they announced on the 9th of March that all of Italy be put into quarantine and on the 11th of March they prohibited nearly all commercial activities except Supermarkets and Pharmacies, all this made no difference.

@ladyluq14 On the 31st of January two Chinese Nationals staying in a hotel in York were the first two people to be diagnosed as having Coronavirus in the UK. Don't forget that some people who catch it have mild or no symptoms so it could have been circulating in the UK as early as late December.
1
@paul1979uk2000 Italy stopped all flights from China on the 31st of January, it made no difference.
1
@paul1979uk2000 True. When Italy identified Lombardy as the main source they put all of Italy into quarantine on the 9th of March but it was too late. Also in the the UK on the 31st of January the first 2 confirmed cases of Coronavirus were 2 Chinese nationals staying at a hotel in York. The World Health Organisation didn't confirm Coronavirus as a Pandemic until the 11th March.
1
@paul1979uk2000 To be honest even The World Health Organisation (WHO) have admitted mistakes when they assessed Coronavirus risk as "moderate". I know the UK government work on the Scientific and medical advice they are being given to make decisions, after all they don't want to lose any of their family members. I think the way this virus behaves has a lot of unknowns surrounding it and it may be the case that it is never fully eradicated until there is a vaccine but obviously all Countries can't be shut down for years on end.

St. Thomas' Hospital were Boris was treated is a large NHS teaching Hospital.
1
It is not the UK governments fault, they take advice about PPE from their scientific and medical professionals.
1
@emilymorley3655 Amazing how some people would think such things.

@colmmcdonnell6256 On the 31st of January two Chinese Nationals staying at a hotel in York were confirmed as the first cases of Coronavirus in the UK, not exactly pandemic numbers.
1
@colmmcdonnell6256 The World Health Authority didn't declare Coronavirus as a Pandemic until the 11th of March.
1
It doesn't help that the population of the UK is over 66 million the same as France which is twice the size of the UK. In the UK we are all packed in like Sardines.
1
@pimpgreen8989 Coronavirus is just starting to affect 3rd world countries. Also face masks are not totally protective because viruses can transmit through the eyes. Also Italy stopped flights from China on the 31st of January and it made no difference.
1
@itsRue I don't trust Keir Starmer and the last time Labour were in power they were heavily criticized about what happened at Mid Staffs Hospital.

In 2018 NHS workers including nurses accepted a 6.5% pay rise over 3 years. They must have been happy with it or they wouldn't have accepted it.
1
@noelbyrne4114 They accepted it. Lets see what the next pay rise is i presume in 2021?
1
@noelbyrne4114 The Conservative Government get a lot of bad press but to be honest people pay less tax now than they ever did under a Labour Government. The last time Labour were in power in 2010 the Personal Allowance (amount allowed to earn before paying tax) was a pathetic £4,475. At present people are allowed to earn £12.500 before paying tax under The Conservatives.
