Robotics and AI are separate technologies that work together like many other technologies, but from someone in the AI space, robotics are not a near-term or mid-term threat to the vast majority of workers, however, AI is a massive threat, particularly to white collar jobs. If you’re a blue collar worker in a trade, you’re in good shape over the long haul and job opportunities will likely increase. For while collar jobs, it’s going to get very tough very soon, and that includes my prospects despite being an engineer in an AI intensive field.

I grew up in Austin where I went to HS and UT when the city population was 350,000. I now live in New Braunfels after spending 16 overseas and then a decade in California. It’s changed so much and definitely not for the better. I wouldn’t say it’s quite as bad as you’ve stated, but directionally we’re in agreement.

@theblackdog2399 You need to listen again. He did mention climate change and its effects, but the focus was on the massive industrial build out underway in the US, which is a far greater source of increased power need than climate change. It’s not even close. Texas is the outsized beneficiary of this industrial build out, so they need to increase their grid capacity. If it was just related to climate change, it would be the same very where.

I hear you, but Texans pay less overall taxes than most states, particularly compared to other large GDP states, like CA, NY. Property tax is a consumption tax, so the individual has a degree of control over how much they pay based on how expensive of a house they choose to buy and where they choose to buy. Also Texas has lower gasoline taxes than most, so gas is cheaper as is food and other energy dependent products.

@michaelm4597 Yea, you’re right Texas is the only place where people complain about teacher’s salaries.
