SS won’t touched. Not extending the debt ceiling doesn’t necessarily mean the US goes into default. It just means that its not fully funded and the US government must live within its means. They could delay payments to defense contractors with their approval or delay gifts to overseas countries neither of which would represent a default.

Yes, but the only reason the national parks closed along with White House tours is because the Administration at the time chose to inflict as much pain on the public as possible. They could have delayed a couple payments to defense contractors or gifts to other countries or several other areas to cover the gap and no one would have felt a thing.

Uh oh, some one has been taking legal lessons from CNN. The 14th amendment does not permit the POTUS to unilaterally extend the debt limit for any and all obligations. Section four of the 14h amended covers pensions, bounties and the suppression of rebellion. If that is all we were talking about there would be no need to raise the debt ceiling at all. Any POTUS loses in court if they bypass Congress to increase spending. This is just media fluff. Don’t buy it.
