@Jay-vt1mw increased displacement, in addition to more equipment and fuel as you mentioned, translates to the ability to include a wider range of aircraft, the ability to remain at sea for much longer period of time and the capability of projecting power over a larger area for a longer period of time. This matters more to the US as there are no security risk areas close to the lower 48, so they are deployed further and for longer periods of time aways from their home berths.

Wow, that is a naive comment. Why don’t you ask the French? They have aligned with the US since their battle for independence and both have help each other for decades, not least of which included freeing France from NAZI control. Any thought that the US role in NATO for the last 75 years might have contributed to France’s current security?
