  1. Peter is always black and white in his assessment. There is a lot of gray space between not being in the EU and having a food embargo or even tariffs. Switzerland isn’t part of the EU either, albeit they have bilateral trade agreements, but both trade tariff free with the EU.

  2. Great comment. As a Yank my first reaction is that his argument is way too binary. In particular, an agreement with continental Europe would not preclude UK agriculture. Europe’s cost point is high and the supply is somewhat at risk at present. I can’t comment on the impact of lower cost goods from N.A., but it seems crazy to lose the ability to feed your own people.

  3. Another comment from this Yank. I’ve traveled all over the world including being an expat in Asia for over 15 years. This included about 20 trips to England in support of financing for our projects abroad. I can say with confidence that British food is as good as you’re willing to spend. Even Shepard’s Pie with Mushy Pees and a couple of pints at the local pub is pretty good and always a good time. Fine dining is available in all the cities and many of the small towns.
