to be honest I worked in the defense industry in the 80s and 90s and within that environment everyone new the USSR and later the Russian weapon systems were decades behind those of the US. Given Russia’s general aimless meandering and poor economic environment over the last 25 -30 years, my assumption is that they lost additional ground on the front since that time

@fwfeo No, I didn’t buy the sales pitch. I had personal friends that went to Russia as part of the SALT II treaty on 1984 to inspect their ICBMs and most of them had been frozen in ice for several years (they took core samples of the ice) and the expansion in the silos from water to ice had compromised the exteriors of the launch vehicles such that they would have disintegrated before they reached the upper atmosphere. You clearly don’t understand the business, because if you did, you would know that flying cosmonauts/astronauts to dock with the space station is trivial compared to managing an arsenal of launch ready ICBM for decades. Don’t f* with me in this area. You’re out of league. Take the ‘L’ and learn something, Youngblood.

@wisenber Standard procedure for Patriot batteries to relocate after each use. The reason is because satellite imaging and in the case of Ukraine even local CCTV can be tapped to triangulate the missile trajectory to pinpoint the launch location. If Russia knows where they are, they would be very easy to neutralize. The exhaust trails remain observable not only in the visible spectrum but also in the infrared band for several minutes after launch. The fact that they vehicle mounted is not to move than into position, but rather to get them out of harm’s way after they have done their job.
