@krywoz707 lol most of the country doesn't even speak Ukrainian. Explain to me how exactly "Ukrainian culture" is any different from Russian culture. I'll wait. Source: am Ukrainian

@Gerald H LOL Russian and Ukrainian culture is identical. Language is essentially the same with the government trying hard to change Ukrainian to be "different". Source: am Ukrainian

@Gerald H I am from Odessa actually. Just like Donbass, we were unhappy with the Maidan coup that overthrew Yanukovich (whom the East essentially elected). At the time, there was quite alot of talk of secession and there were even many who were waiting for Putin to come in saying, "Одесса всегда был Русский город!" (Odessa has always been a Russian city!). The horrors you mention where started by ultras from Lvov/Kiev as they were quite unhappy with our stance on maidan. Same situation in Kharkov. The only difference is that Donbas was the first to rebel, and we (as well as Kharkov and Mariupol) got suppressed. Even now there are many in Odessa who support Russia and wait for a Russian landing.

@Gerald H the Ukrainian peoples republic was started by some intellectuals from Poland and had little support amongst the populace. Which is why the government ran from Kiev when the Bolsheviks came. Since there was no central government to exert power, they kind of did what they wanted. The army of Petlura was mostly Poles that fought the Bolsheviks. So no, Ukrainian identity was not really a thing outside some intellectual circles. Source: am Ukrainian

@Gerald H Ukrainian that was spoken by peasants was not "Ukrainian" but rather a rural dialect of Russian. Such dialects exist within Russia itself - the differences between the Russian of Moscow and that of Vladivostok is quite palpable. Ironically Ukrainian became a "language" when the Soviets developed an alphabet for it and a writing system.

@MusicOrGetMugged lol if I asked you this question in 2012, you would have said they're the same thing. Ukrainians and Russians are so intermixed as to essentially be one people.

@Gerald H he's talking about the Greeks who settled Tanais and the coasts of the black sea as well as the coasts of Crimea.

@Krywoz @Krywoz 1. The ukranian census took data from mostly western Ukraine where Ukrainian predominates. 2. The fact that you use the term "orc" unironically tells me that you are thoroughly brainwashed, particularly when Ukrainians have a long and storied history of killing Polish children and women. If I recall correctly, in western Ukraine UPA fighters said "we must kill all Poles regardless of if they are elderly, women or children". This ended in the deaths of 200, 000 Poles. Different folk costumes? Lol wut? Both of us have вышыванка with variations in patterns (that vary within both Russia and Ukraine). Different architecture? LOOOOL. You do realize that everything East of the Dnieper was built by and settled by the Russians, so their architecture is identical. Ukrainians express European values? That's hilarious if true - given that Ukraine is the most corrupt country in Europe. Ukrainians are also known for cruelty and frequently engage in torture. We also have had 11 opposition channels closed since 2019 and numerous journalists killed that exposed corruption of zelensky. If that is what "European values" are then that's messed up lmao
