Now that energy costs are so high we have an opportunity to find out if green alternatives can work. And also how people cope with using a lot energy.

@mrb152 and that it the heart of the problem - energy density and storage. I know they have a bad rep but hydrocarbons are amazing molecules - and not just for energy. Will be very difficult to replace them entirely. Still, we should make the effort to find alternatives, the supply is not endless and it will become increasingly difficult to extract them from the earth.

@JustMeTalking I hope it will work. We did a lot of cost-benefit studies of green alternatives when I took some environmental engineering classes and the result depended almost entirely on the cost of energy. With current costs in continental Europe those alternatives are looking pretty good right now.
