  22.  @KiwiImpactSaint  freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly. Free and fair elections. Access to the media by everyone. Citizen participation in government. Independent businesses operating with minimal government interference. Civic institutions. Rules instead of arbitrary government decree. The government answers to the people in the free world. Many have flaws and none are perfect but they share common values, hopes, aspirations.

  27. Maybe it's time to be a little pro-active if the Chinese keep pushing on Taiwan. Maybe some freedom of navigation exercises in the area. One day, all of a sudden, China will attack Taiwan without warning. It's inevitable. Be prepared.

The kind of interference you talk about never works out well for us and we have learned to avoid that kind behavior. At the same time we will always come to defense of free nations if we are asked for support.

  42.  @ALIEN_857  completely different situation. South Vietnam was a corrupt government with no intention of becoming free and democratic. The US should never have intervened there. Taiwan is a modern free and democratic nation that deserves our support.

  46.  @Xrey-ek5sh  just look at what China has done in Tibet, in Hong Kong, against the uygers, and in the South China sea. Ethnic cleansing, human rights violations, suppression of democracy and freedom. China has been extending it's control in the region for decades. The US has changed, it avoids force, tries to find diplomatic solutions. But if a free sovereign nation is threatened we will come their defense.

  47.  @Emilechen  of course the US will always stand by Japan. They are part of the alliance of free world nations. The US needs Japan too. We are all in this together. That being said, Japan has shown its technological excellence in commercial products so it seems likely to me that they can do the same with military hardware. I remember seeing Toyota pickups, not designed for war, being used extensively in Afghanistan. It takes a long time to build up a "military industrial complex" like we have in the US. Look how long it took China to ramp up their military power and now they are almost at the same level as the US.

  50. One way to take down Putin is to deprive him of economics power. The Russian people can't or won't take action so there is much choice. Putin will keep killing in Ukraine until he is out of power.
