This may be the last chance Hungarians have to restore real democracy and a pluralistic society. They could lose what's left of their free press. Corruption is a democracy killer and they need to stop it.

Not surprised, the two countries have a lot in common. Ethnic cleansing, war crimes, aggressive actions against their neighbors.
28
When I was a kid during the cold war I remember hearing about ordinary people building bomb shelters their back yard. I remember a neighbor showing me the shelter he was building. I guess people lost interest when it became evident only an irrational government would launch nuclear weapons.
23
The Kurds need their own country. I've seen them attacked by Iraq by Turkey, and now by Iran. It's amazing they still survive in such a hostile environment.
15
@ankoranko8736 Turkish people are fine, Erdogan is not. Please don't take offense. Sorry about any mean comments.
12
"negotiated settlement" means giving up territory to Putin. This would be a big mistake. What remains of Ukraine wouldn't be a viable state. They must insist on a return to pre-war boundaries.
12
Watch out for paid Putin trolls spamming the comments
11
Bad move by Russia. Finland is strong and can find other energy sources. Russia loses revenue and gains nothing.
11
Dictators unite!
11
Good news!
11
Didn't know that was still a thing. Isn't it problematic for them to create divisiveness right now?
10
Thank you for this report. I've been wondering if women elsewhere in the free world have the right to choose.
9
Hopefully it won't be a close vote. If it turns into a contested outcome it's going to become destabilizing.

Given the costs of accommodating Ukrainian refugees we can temporarily overlook problematic behavior. The Polish people have shown such kindness and compassion to Ukrainians they can be forgiven past transgressions. At least for now.
6
Finland and Sweden already coordinate with NATO so in some ways it's sort of symbolic more than anything else.
5
I expect this kind of behavior for Erdogan in Turkey but it's very disappointing coming from Hungary. They fought for freedom against the Soviet Union and I would think freedom and democracy would be an important value to them.
5
Paid Putin trolls are getting desperate. About to lose their paychecks. Ukraine is going to push Putin's army right of Ukraine and no amount of propaganda is going to stop them π€¨
5
Thank you France!
4
Finally some good news. Slava Ukraini!
4
Brave woman. That took a lot of courage. Glad she got out alive.
4
It's about time. They waited far too long.
3
They can't win on the battlefield so they use covert disinformation strategy to compensate. Hybrid warfare is still warfare.
3
He is correct. The outcome of the war depends entirely on the West providing weapons The Ukrainians have proven they can defend themselves if they have the resources
3
If you are so sure Putin will win, then why is he worried about Western aid to Ukraine?
3
Ironically, weapons will shorten the war and save lives. People living in Ukrainian territory will be free, those living in occupied territory will live in fear under tyranny.
3
Must be tough for all those people and paid Russian trolls to keep saying Ukraine will lose. Can't deny the obvious success by Ukraine. No reason for a "negotiated settlement" when Putin's army is pushed out of all occupied lands.
2
Ukraine needs to pick up the pace fast. This is unsustainable. Gotta start blasting Putin's supply lines, airfields and launch pads inside Russia if necessary. Otherwise Putin is going to destroy the whole country.
2
Getting more difficult for paid Putin trolls to say Ukraine can't win. It's happening and no amount of propaganda can stop it. Slava Ukraini!
2
@contemporiser it looks like Poland is what it would be like if American Republicans took over. Similar beliefs and strategy. Just have to vote them out. Maybe find opposition candidates that Polish voters can support. I don't know, just an outsider from abroad trying to understand.
2
He is a paid Putin troll
2
This is a natural alliance. Why is Erdogan against it? Come to think of it, since Erdogan is so close to Putin why is Turkey in the alliance at all?
2
Let's get this war over with. Send Ukraine everything it needs, and the war will be over in months. This drip at a time supply is just costing more lives.
2
So Orban wants to consume Russian hydrocarbons while the rest of Europe suffers?
2
If Russia can't launch a major offensive by February 24th, then you will know they can't win.
2
Brinksmanship. Who will blink first?
2
@hcha7479 apparently favored by half the world population. Unfortunately, a free country can easily become a tyranny, but it's almost impossible for a tyranny to become free.
2
Putin's thugs did it. Doesn't like the pro-war bloggers who think he is incompetent π
2
I don't why they even bother, nobody is going to believe annexation with Russia is what Ukrainians want. It's seizure of territory plain and simple.
2
This is lie. There is video evidence she was killed by Palestinians by mistake.
2
Give it up Russian trolls π admit defeat and leave. Putin is sending your fellow citizens to die in Ukraine. Is that what you really want? Today Kherson, next Donbas, and finally Crimea, all will be Ukraine πΊπ¦ π
2
Orban is Putin's boy. He does what the Kremlin tells him to do.
2
Why is Erdogan in Turkey the only country taking advantage and making demands?
2
Putin starts losing ground so he attacks the civilians from a safe place in Russia. Ukraine should strike launch sites in Russia to stop them from killing civilians. Putin has become a terrorist π‘
2
Putin doesn't like this conversation. His paid Putin trolls are all over it. What's the matter Putin? Don't like it when people say it's just your obsession with empire driving this? Trolls can't help you now π
1
Putin is wasting his money on paid Putin trolls. Ukraine will push out Putin's army and remain free of Putin's tyranny.
1
Putin lies. If the Ukrainians try to leave they will be killed.
1
@richlisola1 you are correct. But problematic was not really what I meant. It's more like provocative. Either way, free speech is more important as you said.
1
It ain't over till it's over. Ukraine is training more troops, getting more weapons, slowly becoming more effective. It will take time to overcome the advantage Putin's army has over Ukraine but it will happen. Paid Putin trolls cannot stop it.
1
What do they expect? Orban is Putin's friend and ally. Orban is following Putin's playbook controlling the media and information. Don't know how Hungary qualifies to be with in the EU or NATO
1
Its a war of political will.
