russia's neighbors don't think of russia as a 'giver' but as a 'taker' (with good reason) any charity tends to be telescopic in nature.

@tatianalyulkin410 Because not everybody is as obsessed with genetic background as russians are. they were all soviets which was dominated by russian language, culture and ideas. Assigned Crimea to Ukraine made sense from infrastructure and agricultural reasons, they wanted to improve agriculture and Ukrainians are better farmers than russians.

@tatianalyulkin410 Every person I've met from Crimea (not many, true) told me their first language was Ukrainian (years before russian invaded and annexed it).

@elvirabary This is a lot of European countries. Most people form their social circles early (by the end of high school, maybe university maybe early days at work) and aren't really interested in expanding them. Americans like broad shallow social networks (lots of people you know casually) and most Europeans want small but very deep networks (where you know everything about the other person).

Not knowing whose taxonomy you're using and coming up with my own terms, Poland's archetypes are the Farmer (Provider?) and the Freedom Fighter. I'm not sure which comes first. The Farmer - craves normalcy and predictability and wants a quiet routine so they can concentrate on improving their lives and providing for themselves and their own. The Freedom Fighter - cannot abide being told what to do, rebels at any authority that they don't choose freely, despises empty spectacle and willingly helps those who also value autonomy, dignity and freedom

Yes, America wants to prove to itself that it's number one. Outside acknowledgement would be nice but not necessary and not necessarily believed. I think it's a protestant thing (the country is culturally protestant).

@CPAndy-x5x I really dislike PiS but as right wing authoritarian governments go they weren't that extreme. And there was no shortage of protests when they went too far. And they did step down when they lost in 2023.

I used to follow some sites in English about foreigners in Denmark.... what stood out was how much most of them hated anything uniquely Danish and hated any requirement for them to integrate into the country (like learning the language) and how much they wanted to turn Denmark into an outlet of their culture (similar dynamics in the netherlands and other scandinavian countries but stronger in Denmark...

russia craves western (esp American) respect but has no idea whatsoever about how to try to achieve it... I remember some pro-government russians thought that invading Ukraine would favorably impress Americans.... and the way that the cheating at Sochi was downplayed here 'even'.... it meant the whole spectacle was a fraud.
