Having both been in the military and lived next door to meth addicts, I can assure you that having soldiers tweaking out on crank may do a lot of things, but making said soldiers more effective is decidedly not on that list. It's just one of those ideas that I can't imagine anyone ever thought was good.

@PeopleProfiles Sure, keeping troops awake is always good. Tobacco and caffeine work fine for that, without the deleterious effects of meth. Those cranked up troops may be awake, but they're also going to be making bad decisions and behaving carelessly, among other problems. Quite frankly, I want to be nowhere near a guy with a bloodstream full of crystal and an MG34.

@PeopleProfiles I think Stalin was an idiot too, for the most part. The best military decision he ever made was to remove Budyonny from a position where he could make important decisions, because Budyonny was a clown with more mustache than sense who thought that tanks were a passing trend that would never overtake horse cavalry. But he still kept Zhukov in power, and Zhukov is probably the most overrated general of WWII. Wearing the enemy down by continuing human wave attacks just because you have more people than they do may have worked in the end, but it wasn't exactly wise. The best Soviet general of the war was Rokossovskiy, who was in the GULAG at the start of the war for being Polish. And he was lucky, most of the good officers had been shot before the war started.

@PeopleProfiles In political/ethnic ideas, yeah, they were nuts. But I'd always considered most of their military decisions (at least the ones not made by Hitler or Hermann Göring) to be at least rational.
