  2.  @MattanzaMafiaFedora  How is thinking there's something wrong with you if you give your child a ridiculous name that they'll be stuck with for life a sign that I'm troubled? Naming conventions exist for a reason. Absurd names that defy these conventions attract negative attention. Any parent should want to set their child up for success, and a ridiculous name that will attract negative attention is not a good start. If you made up a name for your kid, you're doing it wrong. And if you can't see that you're doing it wrong, you probably aren't firing on all cylinders.

  3.  @anapm2927  Nothing makes me "governor". But naming conventions exist for a reason. If you like Edgar Allan Poe enough to name your kids after him, name your son Edgar. Or Allan. Name your daughter Lenore or Annabelle or something. Don't make up a name that your child will be stuck with for life based on sentiment. Giving your children bizarre names attracts negative attention. Doing so is cruel. This is objective reality, it isn't about how anyone feels about it. If you have a silly name that you like, get a pet. I have a cat named Monster. I wouldn't name my child Monster.

  6.  @anapm2927  Not everyone, but enough people that it can make a significant difference in a child's life. It is deeply unethical to handicap your child like that. There is no shortage of normal names to choose from, it isn't like everyone has to be named John or Mary. But if you go outside the realm of normal names, your kid is going to spend their childhood being mocked and the rest of their life possibly missing out on opportunities because you wanted to show off your creative side. There are plenty of areas of life in which creativity is a good thing. Baby names in one of them. Pick a name that sounds good with your surname, is sex-specific, and isn't particularly easy to make fun of. If you want to use something ridiculous, use it as a nickname that can always be easily dropped, not as a legal name that will follow them around for life.
