  1. Generals certainly give speeches now. When I deployed to Iraq, General Natonski, the commanding general of the 1st Marine Division, gave us some exceedingly boring speech before we deployed. I don't remember the first word of it, because I wasn't paying attention. My battalion commander gave a lot of speeches also, and they were also extremely dull and nobody listened to them. My battalion Sergeant Major gave the only speech I ever heard worth listening to, right before we went home from Iraq. I don't remember any of the specifics apart from how he concluded it: "Now let's go home and FUCK OUR LADIES!!!!" You want to get a bunch of infantry Lance Corporals to listen to you, tell them what they want to hear.
