Actually it is very likely that there was a push by the gov't for BoA to buy Merrill Lynch as a part of a deal to get bailed out.

  4. As to 1% feeling entitled, whoever can get the money will try and get it. The problem isn't a guy who wants 10 Million for bankrupting a company, the problem is the gov't that takes that money from tax payers (either as taxes or as borrowing or as inflation) and GIVES THAT MONEY to that guy.
