"Neutrality is often an option to take in a world of conflict but many people confuse neutrality with pacifism Staying neutral in a conflict means above all standing alone. Having no enemies also means having no friends which means you have a lot of potential enemies, for which you have to prepare Countries which maintain neutrality have some of the most well maintained and well-prepared militaries in their neighborhood, allowing them to also feel safe in that neighborhood against any one who might act capriciously Neutrality is also NOT a lack of aggression, during WW2 the Swiss shot down both Germans and American planes which violated their airspace Neutrality does not simply mean remaining out of a conflict it means seeing everyone as a potential threat to yourself and preparing for such, because neutral countries that don't.....get Belgiumed" - Kraut, America's Foreign Entanglement

You got to admit that even though the American involvement in Afghanistan was pointless the fact that 20 years of American involvement did not lead to the same number of casualties that Putin has experienced in Ukraine in a mere two weeks is a striking difference ======Edit: Do NOT go into the reply thread you have been warned it's messy in there=========

Honestly the entire idea of golden visas or golden passports should be illegal the mere fact that you can bypass a vetting process to accepting a citizen into your country because that citizen makes a significant financial donation is ripe for abuse

When militarism is strictly used as an individual means of self motivation it doesn't bother me Like if you're so militant that you get up at 5:30 a.m. everyday your bed is made your breakfast is done and then you hit the gym all before you even make it into work at 7:00 a.m. that's a very impressive means of self-motivation

Fun fact Morocco is the oldest ally of the United States Morocco was the very first nation to recognize the Americans and their independence from the UK in 1777 And formal diplomatic ties were first established in 1786 These ties were later greatly expanded upon and codified in 1836 So yeah dont F with Morocco

I also can't deny I really love realism and romanticism in art and those mosaics which I understand are nothing but propaganda are also pretty damn amazing in terms of pure aesthetics

Unless the institutions which governs Argentina are radically altered it doesn't matter who they put in the seat of the presidency I only hope that whoever has the presidency of Argentina recognizes this fact and try their best to promote governmental institutions which are more resistant to corruption and promoting better financial responsibility
49
You know you've screwed up economically when even the liberal side of political news such as visual politik is criticising you

I've said it before I'll say it again if anything Taiwan needs to look at South Korea with how to make sure their military readiness is prepared because Taiwan has an issue in trying to recruit career soldiers Most people in Taiwan HATE the idea of career soldering and they only go through the mandatory 6 months of conscription period and they they never touch a pistol or rifle again in their lives and persue a civilian career Taiwan has mandatory conscription but that conscription period last for only 6 months Taiwan should make that at a minimum one year but in my personal opinion I'd make it 2 years because you cannot train everybody in logistics and weapons and procedures in 6 months and expect them to retain it all and then use it in the event of the national emergency

You know I want to believe this meme but the fact is that China has dominated Vietnam for over a thousand years
32
And other nations don't want to step up to fill the gap
28
This is true even when they got the HIMARS system a lot of capabilities were restricted or removed from the ukrainians accessing them for both security reasons should the equipment ever get captured by the Russians as well as for practical reasons because NATO doesn't exactly want to share all of their capabilities and capacities with a non-NATO Ally
28
Putin: "I'll make my own European Union with Blackjack and Hookers!"
22
Quality over quantity will always be the better option but on a rare occasion sometimes quantity has a value of its own that can match quality And that's basically Russia's game plan right now play the long game of quantity and a war of attrition in hopes of winning because indeed every resource from manpower and material, to troop morale and public/ international support has a timer
17
Vietnam has never been warm with China Vietnam has a past history of being dominated by China for a collective of over a thousand years Granted those 1,000 years were broken with interruptions and rebellions but China would always establish domination again the longest time that China had dominated over Vietnam was a period of about 500 years from 43AD to 544 China with then dominate Vietnam again for about 300 years from 602 to 905
17
Gotta admit that part about the Russians loosing more soldiers in the first month of the Ukrainian war than they did of the 20 years of American involvement in Afghanistan was hilarious
17
Well that is a good thing and I commend Japan for doing that Japan is also 70 years too late to this party Japan has never kept up with its military readiness and training to do an expeditionary force that would come to the defense of Taiwan on top of that Japan has barely any military industrial complex that can supply its forces meaning one or two government contractors and those government contractors are strictly limited to supply only just the Japanese forces meaning there is no competition for those contractors and therefore they have no incentive to innovate and give the Japanese soldiers and the Japanese military better equipment that has been tested by militaries around the world
17
@exp8all glad to hear it to 247 million is not quite 60 billion but it's something All of Europe will need to step up because this affects Europe the most
15
@Doping1234 it did defend itself that I don't deny but it didn't take any proactive measures to do a better job of defending itself, such as refusing to allow the maginot line to extend into its territory and refusing to allow the stationing of foreign troops in its borders along that same maginot line Jointly exercising with the military of its allies to develop cohesion and combat readiness, and increasing, rather than decreasing, it's overall standing army size
14
You'd be ousted as a "foreigner trying to break Japanese tradition" Japan hates it when they receive any and all criticism especially when it comes from abroad
14
@jaydee6268 it's already past tense dominat- ed
12
The Polish have been the only NATO nation in Europe to successfully see the Russians for what they truly are and they have never stopped with their military readiness And the Polish are the most enthusiastic of having the Americans assist them in the defense of their Nation I think they want a permanent base station there with American staff in it and I think they were planning to call it fort Trump
12
@TheAbsol7448 A navy that's had no combat experience since 1940 and I'm sorry buddy but it it's not that powerful if it's not combat hardened and combat tested it's not that powerful it has a capacity to be so, the potential of the Japanese Navy to be a powerful one is there Japan has the ability to produce quality products but they are extremely expensive and it takes time and unfortunately Japan is only now shifting to militarizing themselves had a later period than when other countries around Asia have already done so
11
@Doping1234 look again at my comment you are confusing pacifism and neutrality "Neutrality is not a lack of aggression" If you want to train with another nation to better your chances of your military own forces which are strictly kept within the borders of your nation to defend the home nation yes that still is a neutral act
10
That is not true at all Ukraine never had the ability to utilize those nuclear weapons all they had was physical control they never had any launching capability the codes and the orders to do so were kept within the Kremlin and the Soviet Union and the inheritor nation russia Ukraine's government already realized this in the 1990s which is why they negotiated to have those returned to Russia because there was no way that the Ukrainian government could utilize them as a means of preventing any type of conventional invasion
10
Exactly in fact the Muslim brotherhood arose from opposition to Attaturk's reforms and modernization of the Turkish nation
10
Yes sadly Russia has had nothing but authoritarianism as it's leadership for a very long time it's going to be a while before it breaks out of that cycle And with authoritarianism only ever becoming more popular around the world, even in places you wouldn't expect like Canada, it will be a long time coming for Russia to break free
9
I completely disagree with myth 2 foreign investors are leaving China because they learned the hard way that they can't get their money just like foreign investors are leaving Russia
9
Yeah I commented something similar it's a collective of 1,000 years of dominance over Vietnam by china with the longest unbroken period of lasting about 500 years Thankfully the last time China dominated Vietnam was back in the 1400s during the Ming dynasty
8
I'm not surprised Peru has had a very weird history of its internal politics such as when President Fujimori was running the country
8
Visual politik I feel I should remind you that any form of a blockade is seen as an act of War by international law meaning no China will not blockade the Taiwanese island And expect them and the rest of the world to negotiate
8
the border with Finland and Russia is already closed I don't know what they can do lol 🤣
8
sort of, it's also a problem rooted in both Japanese culture and Japanese demography Japan is extremely proud of their homogeneous and monoculture that they refuse any and all attempts to change it, even when these changes would improve society as a whole
7
@deanzaZZR which is why I say again if Taiwan wants to keep itself afloat it needs to increase it's ability to retain the career soldiers it has and increase it's ability to gain more
7
The destruction of the Amazon rainforest so Brazil can become an economic powerhouse and fulfill it's economic potential is like burning the Mona Lisa to heat a 2000sq ft building
7
Cue mozart's lacrimosa
7
🇺🇲 to 🇲🇦 ---> "We've also got you fam, you were the first nation in the world to recognize the US and our independence in 1777"
6
@enzocarneiro6748 correct as a taxpayer you do have a say in how you want your government to spend your money And that's the entire point of democracy you discuss negotiate and compromise how you want your nation's resources to be allocated
6
Honestly NATO just needs to get rid of that unanimous clause for accepting new members hungry offers nothing to nato and turkey offers nothing to nato either in fact turkey has fought against fellow NATO members Greece and still to this day wants to remove Greece from the map
6
Mexico was a great country until pri turned a blind eye and helped create the pax mafiosa And ever since then Mexico has had difficulty trying to dismantle that 80 year policy
6
I hope the entire practice gets turned illegal golden passports and golden visas do not attract investment that is worth the severe security risk
6
Visual politic you are effectively forgetting a problem with the quad India loves Russia
6
@live_free_or_perish it already happened the US has been supplying weapons to the Vietnamese since 2012
6
Until Japan starts accepting foreigners into a society and its labor force it will never start overcoming it's shrinking population The United States and its own population is shrinking but they keep accepting foreigners into the fold to replenish itself that's why I even though their birth rate is also on the decline their population has grown and grown rapidly
5
Brazil's just as culpable as any other nation regarding this And perhaps more so because Brazil is responsible for destroying the rain forest some of the largest ecosystems on earth that could help battle the climate issue
5
You got to make some concessions when you are in negotiations with the opposition segments of the government
5
USA stands with Morocco! 🇺🇲🤝🇲🇦 We've had diplomatic relations since 1777 you were the first country to recognize us and we've been allies since 1836 The US and the Muslim world of the Maghreb have been linked since the beginning of the US's story
5
Remember the old saying: "everyone hates the soldier until the enemy is at the gates" And that was the path that the majority, but not every nation, of Europe took, prioritizing social programs, welfare, healthcare, education and neglecting defense spending as well as military combat readiness Because it was believed the US will always come to the defense. which is still true, but to maintain that alliance for as long as we have over 70+ years has been pretty pricey Now the US is just basically saying: "look you have got to step up, and if you want to stay out of NATO and maintain a form of Neutrality that's your own choice but if you do you'll be facing any aggressor nation alone"
5
I'm pretty sure there were divisions between the Hutu and the tutsi before colonization but without a doubt the colonization inflamed that process
