When silicon valley companies realize they have employees who are living in Tennessee, wages will get slashed to show more profit (if adjusted they'll probably get a third of what they were making in SF).

My husband specifically for a dev job at a fully remote place right before the pandemic started - they were already losing good employees to WFH companies prepandemic. Now i can't imagine.

One way to get your wage to increase with inflation is to change jobs. At least for salaried work you will almost certainly get more changing companies than you will getting incremental raises. Someone who started off making 50k at a company may be making 70k after 15 years but someone who's just starting after those 15 years may start at 70k for the same position, that person with 15 years experience could easily move to another company and make 90k but they often don't want to because they have other fluff benefits like PTO that they like and don't want to lose. Education is an investment you're making in yourself, what that investment is worth to you is a personal choice. Saying "it's all free" means that it's no longer your investment in yourself, and there is no accountability for success. Every one of my friends who were in STEM paid off all their loans in 10 years or less, most had 100k+ because we went to a private college (and they did not come from wealthy backgrounds).

I think it should be "pick a place" "find a new job" then quit.

I doubt it. The most neurotic people at my work who are refusing to enter a restaurant despite being fully vaccinated are men. Not saying women aren't neurotic but men can be just as much. It correlates more to what news they watch.

My company too. Our warehouse can't keep anyone from leaving. It isn't even to Amazon, they just want unemployment.

Ditto. Plus i had to leave early several days because of traffic (my 15 min commute could easily become 1hr or more) or i was getting in late because of traffic. Now i work 7:30-4:30 because that's about what I was doing in the office, but i get to take more breaks and actually get lunch.
