@Velociraptor-sh6ht So you are saying people can create a debt, then just skip out on it and or stay in a rental property and say " F U" I'm not paying????? No, reality is coming and they will collect, you may not like it but it will/ is happening.

If they flag your bank account , meaning they send a notice to all banks in your town you'll never get the cash or be able to cash it. The bank will take the check and you'll not get the cash.

@Velociraptor-sh6ht Well they will collect sooner or later, debts never go away. Peoples credit will suffer, it takes 7 years for a single negative report on your credit to fall off, 7 years.

Not so, they can file and you not even know and still freeze/ seize your account before you get served papers, they do that all the time.

@sallyjackson8129 In my state if the amount you owe is $3000.00 or more it goes to District Court, laws there are very different than small claims court, you will need a attorney or forget it , your done from the get go.....But as I stated it depends on the state.

@sallyjackson8129 True....I mean I understand people have hard times, we all have but some have been a year without paying rent, loans, credit cards etc....They should have known one day those lenders / landlords would want the money owed.

@sallyjackson8129 Years ago , 1993 I had a debt of $200. Anyway It was bought by a debt collector. They seized my bank account , If memory served I had $67 in it. I was never served by the local Sheriff to appear in court, so by not showing up at court the judge automictically ruled in the debt collectors favor. By the time it was all said and done I owed $420....Latter on I was talking to a lawyer at work and asked it that was legal he responded, " Yes, it is legal, its a grey area but by you failing to appear in court you lose by default." I said , " I was never told I had a court date, wasn't served." Lawyer again stated, " thats the grey area but , it happens every day." Never again did I fail to pay a debt, lesson learned!

@sallyjackson8129 I forgot, just remembered. After 60 days of non payment the agency you owe money to casts off the debt, meaning they send it to collections. If you ignore them they can set on that debt for a year, 2 years then bam one day your bank account is frozen and then you are up shit creek. Some states have time limits of 3 years, 4 years, or up to 8 years depending on the state in which they can legally collect. Usually credit cards, medical bills, car notes fall into that category.. So just because you skate or think you do for a year, depending on the state you reside they have years to legally collect.

@sallyjackson8129 Exactly.......What I'm saying . Some think it will go away, it will not . Depending on the state you reside they have years in which to sue you. I never got a summons to appear in court but when I stated that to try to reverse the order it didn't matter, I lost by default, because I didn't appear, that was 28 years ago . Trust me it was a eye opener to the legal system and I never went down that street again.
