  1. These were summary judgements, meaning the Plantiffs only had to argue about damages and not if the statements were defamatory or not. Both judges also ordered that the Jones's lawyers weren't allowed to say Freedom of Speech. That why the lawyers came up with the defenses that were presented because they had no other options.
