  1. I remember that, too. I remember that our teacher brought a television into the classroom and let it play for about 20 minutes or so. I remember the images of people watching TVs through store windows and crying. At that age (just a few years older than you) it was hard to process the information, but it seemed the whole world was crying. I think Eisenhower was perhaps the only other President who was that respected in our lifetime until Obama, although he certainly had his detractors. We have lived in one of the most amazing periods in history, both good and bad.

  4. And when Eisenhower was getting ready to leave office, he gave a speech in which he actually warned us about the Military/Industrial Complex. It’s available on YouTube, although I don’t have the link to it at the moment. Considering that he had been a well-known and well-respected high-ranking military officer (general) during WWII made that warning all the more powerful.
