17:23 Nobody used rectangular shields? Isn't this guy supposed to be some kind of expert? A historical weapons expert that has never heard of a scutum? I agree these particular shields are atrocious, but that statement is just false. They had scutums.... Also rectangular is the most popular form for a shield in modern times as well (yes we still use shields in modern combat! though it's primarily used by law enforcement rather than by military)

20:52 Although it's probably not something that can be done reliably, you actually CAN block arrows with a sword; this is something that bored modern enthusiasts (Skallagrim in this case!) have experimented with. There's even a guy who is actually able to cut projectiles flying near the speed of a bullet mid-flight (there's no blocking anything at those speeds though), his name's Isao Machii, check him out. He has several Guinness world records, including cutting a tennis ball flying at 700km/h, guy is pretty nuts. I imagine if anyone could reliably block arrows with a sword, it would be him, would be nice to see him try. (For reference, a crossbow bolt moves at estimately 400km/h)
