  1. We need to be careful not to mis-categorize aircraft. The U.S. did not convert medium bombers into fighters, they converted them into ground attack aircraft. A B-25 with a bunch of guns in it nose was great for attacking ground targets, but not not air to air combat. The heavy fighter category was originally about bomber interception or bomber escort. The concept was a fighter with more armament and range than a single-engine fighter. Since any fighter could do ground attack obviously a heavy fighter could do that even better.

  2. @@cancermcaids7688 The P-70 was a night fighter, like the P-61, Bf-110, Ju-88, He-219, etc. Not 'real' fighters.

  3. @@cancermcaids7688 Not splitting a hair at all. I'd say you are braiding two different hairs into the same strand. Just because the word "fighter" is part of the term "night fighter" doesn't make the two the same thing, or even closely related. Do you really think a P-70 would have chance in air-to-air combat against a P-47, a P-38, or a P-51? Come on man.
