  1. The party official who cancelled this ugly abomination was a true hero of the Soviet Union! I completely appreciate the goal of improving pilot visibility, but it might have been better to move the engine aft as in the P-39 and free up the nose for a forward placed cockpit. They may have also had room for mounting guns with magazines aft of the cockpit and the barrels underneath like the Mosquito fighter bomber variants.
