There’s also an irrational component to this “conservative” disinclination to change, one relating to a dark strain of Magical Thinking - as in there’s a lack of cognitive engagement (resulting in a lack of planning, among many other things.) While I personally value stability, I’m not resistant to change. In my case, it’s due to having limited resources due to being born with significant disabilities - and I must manage those resources so as to survive. Hence, being given advance notice and having an actual plan to move forward helps a great deal.
