Comments by "" (@A86) on "Racist's Receipt Goes Viral, Waitress Suspended" video.
"People leave racial slurs or other 'tips' on receipts all of the time" I wouldn't be surprised how often people leave them. I used to work in the service industry, so I know how customers can be. But, I'd wager that it's still the vast, vast minority of black customers (or white customers either) who leave racial slurs on receipts. Most patrons who don't leave tips don't leave racial slurs as an extra kick in the mouth like the people in the video.

I don't know if I'd say I'm an exception to the rule (all my black friends seem to usually tip servers too), but yeah, on average black patrons seem to tip less. Even in my experience. The problem probably has a myriad of causes - probably caused by both sides (servers and patrons). The worst problem, though, is the service industry paying workers below living wage salaries and leaving them to have to rely on tips to get by. That's the biggest problem.

The vast, vast, vast majority of black patrons who are too cheap to tip don't leave racial slurs on the receipts for the waiters and waitresses though. That's the difference. These idiots left a racial slur on the receipt even though the waitress did nothing to them. Also, in a recent study a good amount (I think it was like 30-40%) of waiters admitted they give black people bad service on purpose. That's part of why blacks are less likely to tip. Don't expect a tip if you give shitty service.

Never. I don't do crap like that. I usually chalk up bad behavior to people being lousy people. I rarely see people being blatantly racist in real life. Most racism I've ever seen is on the Internet. Not surprising, racists tend to be cowards - hence why most of them only talk shit on the Internet.

"you are still likely to receive no tip" It really depends on the individual. I'm black and I pretty much always tip unless I get shitty service or a rude server. It goes both ways. There are some black people who don't tip no matter how well they're treated and there are some black people who don't tip because servers give them bad service right off the bat when they see a black patron. If you expect a black person to not tip you and give bad service it just makes it a self-fulfilling prophecy
