  1. That's why 70% of persons arrested are white but only around 30% of inmates are white - they're more likely to be acquitted or let off. Minorities are more likely to accept a plea bargain (which accounts for the majority of convictions for suspects of any race) and more likely to get a longer sentence or be convicted on circumstantial evidence (case in point - Troy Davis). Police also target them more. Whites are more likely to use marijuana than blacks but blacks get searched more. Mind blown?

Why should a black person who commits a crime be seen as representative of an entire group or a statistic but a white person who commits a crime be seen as "just an individual"?

  9. From what we do know about IQ it correlates little with success or choices. IQ has gone up for the general population by more than 7 points since the early 1920s when they started measuring IQ. Scientists agree there is no evidence that there has been a general increase in "g" (theoretical general intelligence) since that time. People have higher average IQs but aren't necessarily smarter. Do you think people today are significantly smarter than people from the 1920s? No evidence suggest so.

If you go further into the article it also shows scientists don't agree on what "intelligence" is per se and what facets of it IQ tests measure. "Chess grand masters are intelligent" Chess masters are good at chess strategy. That's not the same thing as a being as smart person all-around. "Considered by whom?!?" Most of the public. Being good at chess doesn't mean you're smart. Notice chess isn't a skill tested by the IQ test?   15. mean you're good in other areas of thinking. There are chess masters who have IQ well below 100. IQ is a measure of efficiency at certain mental tasks. Intelligence is a concept, not a thing or an event. It's like saying time is actually split into "eras", an "era" is a concept. Just like intelligence.

Of course it enters the minds of many people but my point is that we should strive to overcome natural (and learned, many of our social prejudices are learned from parents, family, peers and the Media) prejudices. It's natural to want to hurt people sometimes when you get mad but it's not right to act on that natural urge, just like it's not right to act on racial bigotry.

  17. IQ =/= smart or dumb IQ measure certain elements of mental efficiency on specific tasks or specific pattern recognition. Intelligence is a concept, not a thing. The "Race and Intelligence" article on Wikipedia actually does a good job going into this at length. Jewish-Americans were traditionally limited to career fields that involve a lot of thinking (like Law and Banking). Asian-Americans are mostly descendants of highly-educated upper middle class literati in their home countries.

  18. I agree they have a higher average IQ, not that they are "smarter". There is no way to measure how "smart" a person is. Our last President (George W. Bush) purportedly had an IQ over 105. Obviously he was not a very smart man. MLK, Malcolm X and Mahatma Gandhi probably had IQs below 90 or even below 85 (particularly Malcom X who was raised poor in a big, broken family and didn't apply himself in school) and they're considered some of the most brilliant minds of the 20th century.

  20. My only contention was you claiming that IQ is basically a test to see how "smart" a person is. If that were true that would mean the average person today is smarter than the average person from 90 years ago, and I don't think there's any evidence that's true. (I do agree with you the average scientist is smarter than the average person, because scientists are very analytical thinkers by nature). Yes, the white American average IQ is currently higher than the black American average IQ.
